Omniah Ebeid Art

Omniah Ebeid is a Houston-based contemporary artist who works primarily in acrylic and mixed media.  Her paintings often incorporate discarded and recycled materials that she views as not only tools but symbols of resilience, transformation and reinvention.  She believes in combining these materials in her work and transforming them into elements of beauty and meaning. Omniah often draws inspiration from nature and the human journey through life. Her paintings try to show the complexity of life and interconnectedness of all things and how small moments contributes to the larger mosaic of existence. By layering and blending different materials in her paintings, she creates layered and tactile pieces that invite the viewer to look deeper into each painting and appreciate the complexity of all things. In every piece, she seeks not just to depict, but to move the viewer and elicit a feeling of serenity, happiness, tension, or even anger at times.   Art has been an integral part of Omniah's life since childhood. Her artistic journey began at the age of 5 and was shaped by her mother, an accomplished artist who empowered her to create freely from an early age. Some of her fondest memories are of times spent in her mother’s studio, where she was handed brushes, paints, and tools and encouraged to simply create.  This relationship continues to date, with her mother still regularly critiquing her work and challenging and inspiring her artistic growth.  Her need to experiment carried forward into her college years, where she studied metalsmithing, jewelry design, printmaking, ceramics, and painting.  After a long career as an international lawyer working on justice reforms in developing countries, she returned to her true passion: creating art. Although she continues to practice law, she sees her artwork as a more rounded expression of who she truly is.
